FISH
TAXIDERMY CLASS
2
week class 96 hours. Tuition* includes all supplies and materials. This
course is a must for future financial stability. All elements for the preparation
and
mounting of fish will be taught during this two-week course. There will
be
four different species of fish in this two-week course. All instruction
will
be
extensive hand-on.

Week
1
Day
1 - (Pan fish and Bass) - Instruct for measuring fish for manikin and
eyes.
Instruct on skinning and fleshing 1st fish. Students skin and flesh two
fish.
Soak in solution over night.
Day
2 - Instructor will lead a demonstration for fitting fish skins on
manikins
and
preparation of manikins used for mounting. Students will prepare
manikins
and fit fish skins on manikins. Student will follow step-by-step
instruction
on fitting of the first specimen; followed by one on one instruction
with
the student on the student’s 2nd fish. Instructor will lead a demonstration
on
mounting of specimen. Student will follow step-by-step instruction on the
first
specimen; followed by one on one instruction with the student on the
student’s
2nd fish. Instructor will lead a demonstration fining fins. Student will
follow
step-by-step instruction on fining of the first specimen; followed by
one
on one instruction with the student on the student’s 2nd fish. Demo on
1st
fish. Students finish 2nd fish.
Day
3 - (Walleye and Northern Pike) - Students measure two fish for
manikins
and fish eye. Students skin and flesh two fish. Soak in solution over
night.
Day
4 - Students mount two fish and card fins. Demonstration on finishing
fish
fins. Students finish fins on two fish. Instructor will lead a demonstration
on
finishing back of fish, applying hangers to back of fish and epoxy work
on
fish.
Day
5 - Student finish fins on two fish, finish back of fish and apply
hanger.
Epoxy
work on fish two fish.
Day
6 - Finishing fish, preparing for paint finishing. Students prepare
driftwood
for all four fish.
Week
2
Students
will complete any projects from the previous week. The second
week
will include airbrush techniques, maintenance and selection of
equipment
and includes practical painting, patterns and scenery selection.
Student’s
projects will be critiqued and evaluated.
Day
1 - Students continue finishing fish and preparing driftwood for fish.
Day
2 - Lecture in depth about airbrush maintenance, airbrushing
techniques,
purchasing airbrush, repair of the airbrush. Students begin
practice
air brushing on paper, pattering airbrush and grade wash. Instructor
will
lead a demonstration on vermiculation markings, and spot patterning.
Instructor
will lead painting demonstration on Pan fish and Bass. Students
paint
Pan fish and Bass.
Day
3 - Instruction followed by a demonstration using artificial trout
head on
trout
mount. Instructor will conduct painting demonstration on Walleye
and
Northern
Pike. Students paint Walleye and Northern Pike.
Day
4 - Student will continue painting fish.
Day
5 - Instructor will lead mounting demonstration attaching fish to drift
wood
and scenery. Students attach 4 fish to drift wood and scenery.
Day
6 - Critique all fish mounts. Fill out Evaluation survey sheets
